So you want to learn Explorations?

Explorations is one of the few RPG Editors with a solid database backend. Depending on your knowledge of computers, some may say that Explorations is a bit more complicated than other engines. Well RC2 intends to shed some light and make learning Explorations easier.

There are free sample sprites, weapons, and even maps located on my server. You may access these free resources by starting  the Resource Server module. (At the bottom of the map editor, 2nd button from the right.)

...

I've taken  some time to clean up this module. I have added a simple download feature, in case you don't want to import the object into your library, but today we are going to look at the Resource Log feature.  (Enable Import Log [])

This feature was not fully tested in the RC1, release which is why I never spoke about it. When enabled, it will create a log of all the "changes" or objects that have been imported into your library. In the case above, I am about to import this sample "Mummy" into my library.

...

When the file is downloaded and imported, the Explorations debugger module will activate. You will see a complete log of the sprite you imported, any weapons, race, classes, scripts and other attachments. This log is a list of *EVERYTHING* needed to make the mummy work in your game.

...

You may save the log to a simple text file to POST in a forum, give to friends or simply analyze at a later date. (see below)

...

Many of you may remember, the power of the debugger is that it creates a token key to find ANY object in your library. This Mummy was created by using a Character Type : UNDEAD, and a Character Class of "Mummy". The type is used as a general group name, and the class is the specific group name. Linking the two when creating a NPC Sprite was select to make this mummy. Click the list item, and Explorations takes you to the object

...

Selecting the NPC object will take you to the exact Mummy database object. All of the weapons will also be on this data object.  You may also notice that you can view ALL of the graphics that make this mummy, walk, fight, and animate in game. Clicking on graphics files will take you to the folder.

This enhancement, could transform a message forum into a digital Monster's Manual.

1. You can post an image of your sprite/resource include a brief history.
2. Attach the .ECHR, .EOBJ, or .EGRP file to the post.
3. Post the Resource log so viewers can see all of the objects used to make the sprite.
